Crochet Elf Pattern

Elves have a long history in many folklores and associations with similar supernatural beings and were sometimes rather mischievous creatures. It's thought that it was in the 19th-century that they started to become associated with Christmas and Santa and their prominence has only accelerated since then. In the poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (1823), Santa Claus himself is referred to as "a right jolly old elf" but these days we know the elves as the dutiful workers of St. Nick (barring any dreams of dentistry).
