Mary Shelley Crochet Doll Pattern
Mary Shelley began writing Frankenstein at the age of 18 and it was first published in 1818 when she was 20. Her name did not appear until the second edition, which was published in 1821. In 1816 Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley (then Mary Godwin), Claire Clairmont, and Dr. John Polidori gathered at the Villa Diodati in Switzerland. This was "The Year Without Summer" due to the eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia. There's a lot more that could be said about this but essentially (and please bear in mind paraphrasing a lot) due to the weather they spent their days indoors and in trying to entertain themselves told ghost stories, thus Frankenstein was born (also The Vampyre, the first modern vampire story).
My inspiration for this doll was a portrait but Richard Rotheall circa 1831-1840 (and googling women's dress style for the period - alas the consequences of few portraits of a person).
This pattern is available for purchase on my Etsy shop (along with more details) or raverly.
It will come as a downloadable PDF, which includes multiple pictures to follow along with and is worked in one piece. This pattern is in English and uses US crochet terminology.
A finished version of the doll is also available.
